06/09/2015   Katovice (POL): Victories of Erick Barrondo and Brigita Virbalyte






It was held yesterday in Katowice (POL) the traditional international track the distance of 10 km.
 
 
10 km men
 
The victory went to Erick Barrondo of Guatemala, winning without any problem with a time of 40:04 in front of the Ukrainian Andrii Kovenko (40:29).
In third place in the Polish Jakub Jelonek (40:48).
 
On the distance of 1 km, for ten laps, the strong athlete Guatemala, showed the following split per lap: 3:57 - 7:51 - 11:52 - 15:59 - 20:06 - 24:15 - 28:20 - 32:22 - 36:19 anf finish with a split of 3:45 in the last 1,000 meters.
Joining him up to 7 km Andrii Kovenko (also with the same splits), which was detached from Barondo only on eight lap and finished the race after 25" from the winner.
 
Of the 20 athletes to the start 17 have completed the race, 2 DNF and 1 DQ.
 
 
10 km women
 
The women's race was a monologue by Brigita Virbalyte (LTU) that after the seventh place at the recent World Championships in Beijing with a personal best of 1:30:20 won the race with a time of 42:43, in front of the Guatemalan Mirna Ortiz ( 44:05), who in turn came shortly before another Lithuanian Neringa Aidietyte (44:09).
 
These are split times of Brigita Virbalyte, who went into the lead soon after the start, setting the pace: 4:10 - 8:21 - 12:35 - 16:52 - 21:11 - 25:28 - 29:46 - 34:05 - 38:27 and finishing with a split of 4:16 the last 1,000 meters.
The fight for positions of honor among Mirna Ortiz and Aidietyte Neringa, also in this case was resolved to the km 8, when the athlete of Guatemala forced the pace by detaching the Lithuanian and resisting to her attempt to recover in the final lap.
 
Twenty athletes at the start, all arrived.
