30/10/2015   World ranking 20 km women

Also this year, as the season is now coming to an end, we want to offer our readers our "world ranking" on the 20 km women.

We considered the best three results of each athlete, taking as a basis the grading table IAAF, and then calculating the average of the three best results on 20 km, with the possibly also of including those on the 10 km (road and-or track) but considering mandatory, at least for the top six positions in the ranking, the participation in the World Championships in Beijing.

Undisputed winner is the Chinese Liu Hong that totals an average of 1,205 points, but that should certainly be higher if we were to assign a hypothetical bonus for improving the world record in La Coruna on June 6, 2015.

Some slight doubts frankly there remains for the allocation of the two positions of honor between Giorgi and Olyanovska, having the last won on Giorgi in the most important race of the year, the World Championships in Beijing, where the Italian to try to recover the disadvantage that was created around the 15th kilometer, has incurred a disqualification.

But remember that either in Dudince or in Murcia the Italian had won out on Ukraine.

Precisely for these reasons, we do not feel the change in ranking position obtained with the average of the three best results.

Also for the fourth, and fiftth place, the average of the three best results there is unsatisfactory.

In fact, Ana Cabecinha won in Beijing the direct fight with the Drahotova and we would feel for preferring respectively for the fourth and fifth place.

In fourth place then was the Portuguese Ana Cabecinha, with an average of 1,169 points.

We add to these concerns another one.

The results of the other Chinese athlete, Lu Xiuzhi, which by virtue of the second place at the World Championships in Beijing and the first place in the selection of China held in Beijing on March 20, .2015, where she won on Liu Hong, would get an average of points 1,206.

It would lack the third result (as the leg of the Challenge in Taicang has deliberately stop to 10 km), and it seems almost impossible that did not undertake during 2015 a further race on at least 10 km.
