27/01/2016   Cuenca (CU): Andres Choco won Ecuador National Championships in 35 km

Andres Chocho won the gold medal in the National Race Walking Championship in Ecuador on the distance of 35 km with a time of 2:38:06 in front of Rolando Saquipay, silver with a time of 2:38:52; and Claudio Villanueva, bronze in 2:40:07.

In fourth place arrived Jonathan Caceres in 2:42.02.

Follow Edison Salazar (2:50:22) e Vinicio Campana (2:51:30).

Only 27 seconds separate the performance of Chocho with that obtained to thousands of kilometers away on Jan. 23 by Joao Viera in Porto de Mos in Portugal.

Both Villanueva and Chocho are already classified for the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.

"It’s an acceptable time that left me satisfied. Is interesting to the altitude range of Cuenca, and allows me to adjust the level of preparation in which I find myself and analyze other elements to be taken into account in future races”, said Chocho, who will compete in the Olympics in both the 20 km and 50 km.

Despite his leading position in Ecuador his coach, Luis Chocho, has announced that he will not compete in the South American Race Walking Championships, and that his priorities, as preparation for Rio, will be the Circuit of Mexico and the IAAF Team World Championship in Rome.
