15/05/2016   Ro de Janeiro: Caio Bonfim wins Ibero-American Championships






Exactly on the day that twenty years ago the mother, Giaietti Sena, won his title, his son Caio Bonfim won at the Olympic Stadium in Rio De Janeiro the edition 2016 of Ibero-American Championships.

 

The strong Brazilian athlete who last week arrived in Rome in eighth place with a new personal best of 1:20:20, has not struggled to win the Championship Ibero-American.

For him almost a beach stroll that has always seen him in the leading group.

 

Up to 4.000m the leader of the race the race was the other Brazilian Moacir Zimmerman who passed at 2.000m in 8:26.7 and 4000m in 16:46.1.

Immediately after are alternating in the lead up to half the couple Juan Cano (ARG) and Caio Bonfin (BRA) with the following splits:

- 6.000m .: Juan Cano in 25:18.6

- 8.000m: Caio Bomfin in 34:00.4

- 10.000m. Juan Cano in 42:36.9

 

After half race Caio Bonfirm without any delay forced the pace and go to win his first Ibero-American Championships with a time of 1:26:40.7.

These his splits:

- 12.000m: 51:19.9

- 14.000m: 59:59.9

- 16,000m: 1:08:43.5

- 18,000m: 1:17:30.7

 

In second place arrive Juan Manuel Cano (ARG) in 1:27:27.7, while the bronze goes to Bagio Jose (BRA) in 1:28:02.1.

Moacir Zimmermann was disqualified.
