01/06/2016   Monterrey (MEX): Today the final selection to Rio






During the Grand Prix XXX Cantones de La Coruna, held last Saturday in Spain, the Mexican walkers Maria Guadalupe Sanchez Magana, and Gabriela Gonzalez Huichin obtained the Olympic standard in 20 km, recording the time respectively of 1:31:31 and 1:33:41.
 
The entry standard is 1:34:00.
 
With these results, the Mexico already has four athletes in this discipline in perspective to the 2016 Olympic Games.
 
Given that only three participants may be entered, the official selection will be defined in the Mexican National Championships to be held in Monterrey, today June 2 at 6:00 PM in the Fundidora Park.
At 5:00 PM will start the 10 km race U20, with the selection of athletes to World U20 Championships in Poland.
 
At the time the prediction of the team for Rio de Janeiro is as follows:
 
 
Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez Romero: personal best of 1:26:17 (obtained in Rome - the ITA May 7, 2016)
Alejandra Ortega Solis: personal best of 1:29:35 (obtained Pdebrady - CZE on April 9, 2016)
Maria Guadalupe Sanchez Magana: personal best of 1:31:31 (obtained in La Coruna - ESP on May 28, 2016)
 
These three athletes to confirm their presence in Rio de Janeiro would be classified in Monterrey within the first six positions.
 
As for Gabriela Gonzalez Huichin which holds the fourth time as consequence of 18th place in La Coruna, would be selected if she obtain a better time than that of her team-mates in Monterrey today's race.
