With five Olympic Games, in which Vladimir Golubnychyy participated, he brought four awards: "gold" Rome 1960 and Mexico 1968, "silver" in Munich 1972 and ”bronze" in Tokyo 1964. For these achievements is included in the IAAF Hall of Fame!

Specialist 20 km, draw the attention to the first time in 1955, when he was 19 years, with the world record in Kiev: 1:30:36. His shambling walk without breaks led him, at 24, to get the better of a tough group of opponents to the Games in Rome 1960.
