26/06/2016   This weekend in Italy

Italian Championships

Francesco Fortunato is the new Italian Champion in the 10km road walk.

For the young financier the month June 2016 will be framed.

We remember his victories:

- June 4: Tunis - Mediterranean Champion U23 with a new personal best of 39:46.35 on the distance of 10,000m track walk

- June 10: Bressanone - Italian Champion U23 in 41:19.03 (always on the distance of 10.000m track walk)

- June 17: Modena - National Champion University in 18:53.91 (on the distance of 5.000m track walk)

- June 26: Rieti - Italian Champion with in 40:31 time (over a distance of 10km road walk)

If we were to vote for "walker of the month" this palm certainly it would be for him.

In the race of Rieti to the eighth kilometer he has distanced fellow adventurers until then (Leonardo Dei Tos and Federico Tontodonati) that had to fight for less noble medals.

The progression of Francesco Fortunato on 20km road walk:

In the women's race, as expected, there was no competition for Valentina Trapletti, who won her race in 44:41 new personal best over the distance by road (earlier 45:51 obtained in Turin at the last Championships on July 24, 2015).

The athlete coached by Enzo Fiorillo has so  broken down the wall of 45:00, taking fifth place in the European rankings over the distance behind the Spanish Beatriz Pascual (43:22) and in front of Bethan Davies (GBR - 44:59).

At World level, the result of Valentina Trapletti is currently the 10th; in fact after Beatriz Pascual and in front of her there are five Chinese athletes. In China it is not as usual the track walk, just preferring to focus on the road walk.

And returned to compete in Italy the Italian researcher who works in Bristol (Brexit permitting) Tatyana Gabellone, getting the third time ever in his career (47:47) and the first on Italian soil.

For her a very interesting silver.
