On the third day of the first European Youth Championships being held in Tbilisi (GEO) are assigning the medals related to the U18 boys race.
10.000m track walk U18 boys
Preview
The boys U18 list of 2016 is even more complicated to decode.
The times on 10.000m track walk are not statistically reliable as the number of detected results is not an exhaustive sample and reference must be made to the 10km road distance, which, as everyone knows, has other important variables.
Also in this case in the top 15 times in European list U18 boys of 2016, nine are Russian athletes who can not participate in the championships as affected by the international ban; remains two of Belarus (Mikita Kaliada - 42:29 and Ruslan Udodau - 43:39 but is not entered), one of Turkey (Abdelaziz Danis - 43:16), two of France (David Kuster - 43:42 and Justin Bournier - 44:00), and one of Poland (Lukas Niedzialek - 43:43).
Italians entered athletes ranked after the twentieth place on the list: Davide Marchesi (45:18 - 22th in the list) and Nicolas Fanelli (45:50 - 27th in the rlist). However, the latter has a better 44:47.25 on the track, while Davide Marchesi has a 44:43.80.
If Turkey, which also has among entered athletes Imük Abdulselam who recently was capable of a good 45:09.91 over the distance on the track (Istanbul, June 18, 2016), were to replicate the success obtained in the women's race it mark a historic turning point.
The race
Twenty-four athletes at the start.
They go in front of the race Lukas Niedzialek (POL) and Mikita Kaliada (BLR) that after the first half are leading (22:06.52).
The jury is very careful right from the start: enter in the Pit Lane Area Ruslan Sergatsjov (EST) which will then be also DQed, Niklas Richter (GER) who then abandon the race and one of the favorites Abdelaziz Danis (TUR).
But the surprises are only at the start.
Two laps to go the Polish Lukas Niedzialek force the pace and earn twenty meters on Belarusian and appears first on the finish straight.
The young age of the Belarusian plays a bad joke to Mikita Kaliada: he begans a crazy, impossible and incredible sprint over the last 100m to catch up and win a dozen meters.
They do not even need the protests of the Polish, because the Chief Judge, the Spanish Dolores Rojas, is already there to show the red paddle.
Victory to the Polish Lukas Niedzialek in 44:06:49
Silver goes to Imük Abdulselam (TUR) in 45: 30.41.
The bronze goes instead to David Kuster (FRA) in 45:42.09.
The Italians: Nicolas Fanelli arrived in 10th place (46:55.88), while Davide Marchesi, struck by the "Georgian curse", arrives 13th in 48:21.54
