Rumors of race walking in Italy showed since September Giorgio Rubino looking for a new technical guide before the start of the 2017 season.
Giorgio Rubino has had in the year 2016 a troubled season that has in fact ended with no brilliant performance in Rome at the World Race Walking Team Championships, where he did not finish, and that consequently led to his exclusion from the Italy team to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Until 2012 Rubino had trained in Saluzzo with Sandro Damilano together with the athletes of China, trained by the same coach. A cohabitation sometimes swinging it had created sometime high and low moments and that, after London, has been broken up. Then Rubino had moved to Sicily where he had been followed by Dario Privitera and then finally by Alessandro Garozzo.
Now the turning point. Together with teammate of Fiamme Gialle Marco de Luca, he will be followed by Giovanni De Benedictis, star of racewalking in the years 1987-2004, Olympic bronze medalist in 20km at Barcelona 1992.
The official news appeared yesterday on the newspaper “Il Centro”.
Giovanni De Benedictis, highly experienced athlete, will thus be to live with the new interesting adventure to coach two top athletes of the Italian race walk, one of which should finalize the 50km, while the other addressed to the shortest distance.
