18/11/2016   Concordia (ARG): Hurtado (ECU) and Morejon (ECU) win South American U18 championships






Last weekend took place in Concordia (ARG) the South-American U18 Championships .

Walking events were held on the classic distance of 10,000m on track (for males on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016) and 5.000m (for females on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016).

 

 

10,000m track walk U18 boys

 

The victory went to David Alexander Hurtado Espinosa (ECU) with a new personal best of 43:16.07 (the previous one had been established in Quito - ECU on June 4, 2016 with the time of 44:28.60).

The young Ecuadorian has had no difficulty in getting rid of Sebastian Felipe Merchan Sarmiento (COL) which won the silver with the time of 43:48.63. He also smashed his personal best over the distance having been presented at the start with time of 46:37.63 obtained at the U18 World Championships in Cali on May 23, 2015, but with a great personal best on the 10km road got the May 7, 2016 in Rome (43:09).

Third place and bronze for Yohjan Melillan (CHI) with the time of 45:08:47.

 

Nine athletes at the start of which seven have completed the race and two DQ.

 

 

5.000m track track walk U18 girls

 

Unfortunately due to an error in lapcounting, the distance covered by the athletes was not that of 5.000m but that of 4.600m.

Therefore, the jury decided not to publish the timing of the race, but only validate the placings of athletes.

 

Victory to Glenda Morejon Quinoez (ECU) who have a personal best on 5.000m track walk of  24:43.34 (obtained in Quito on June 5, 2016)

Second place to Maryluz Andia (PER)

Third place  to Laura Cristina Chalarca Mojica (COL)

 

Ten athletes at the start, of which eight have completed the test, 1 DNF and 1 DQ.
