17/12/2016   European Junior (U20) Championships history - women

Women events in race walk at European Junior Championships in Athletics begin with the eighth edition in Cottbus 1985.

Like in first men edition event in women first edition the three names that in the future will be more successful in the World have failed to reach the podium.

Olympiada Ivanova (USSR - 9th), Kjersti Platzer (NOR - 10th) and Sari Essayah (FIN - 11th) finished in the order, and the victory went to the couple of Spain Maria Cruz Dias (22:56 on 5.000m. and then the following year in Stuttgart she will win the first edition of European senior Championships 1986) and Reyes Sobrino (22:56 who in Stuttgart will be the fifth)

After that first year we like to remember the first few times of other historical names of the women race walk.
