22/12/2016   Matej Toth wins the sprint of Peter Sagan

Peter Sagan is a monument of the cycling world and even to his home in Slovakia.

Great finisseur, strong in the sprint, he won a lot.

He won the last two World Championships of 2015 and 2016 to which are added this year the Gand-Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders.

But this year is not enough to be the sportsman of the year in Slovakia.

Slightly but the likeable cyclist of Zilina this year bowed to Matej Toth.

They were not enough to Sagan who obtained globally 1.078 votes to overcome the Olympic 50km champion who has obtained 1.151.

"No ambition in the poll”, said Toth, "is a journalistic decision. I've done my best in Rio. I do not take the comparison with Sagan. as a battle."

The Olympic champion from Rio de Janeiro, Matej Tóth then beat in the sprint the cyclist Peter Sagan, who among other things has had one of the most successful seasons in his career.

In the combined votes of sports journalists and the public Peter Sagan scored 1.076 points and 48 times ranked first in the votes of sports journalists.

Matej Toth instead in the combined votes scored 1.151 points resulting former for 60 times among sports journalists. For only 13 times Toth he has been out of the ranking of the first three (and Sagan for 18 times), and this probably was the deciding factor as to why Sagan is finished "only" second.

In third place the tennis champion Dominika Cibulkova, who got 934 votes from journalists, (only 4 times in first place and 43 times out of the ranking of  first three).
