31/12/2016   Tlaxcala (MEX) - 2nd Olympic Race Walk festival






We close the year 2016 with this news reached us today from Mexico by Sandra Guadalupe Colin Gonzalez.

 

On December 18, in the historic center of the city of Tlaxcala, Mexico, it was held on 2nd Olympic Race Walk Festival, with 142 competitors entered of which 80 in women and 62 in men. Despite being in the season of physical preparation, all participated with great enthusiasm, in order to promoterace walk in Mexico.
 
Competed in 7 categories: Children (2006-2007-2008), Boys B (2004-2005), Boys A (2002-2003), U16 (2000-2001), U18 (1997-1998-1999), U20 and senior (1996 or earlier) and Master. They showed up at the start of athletes 5 regions: State of Mexico, Mexico City, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo and Chiapas of, belonging to 18 race walkin teams.
 
Some teams reached Tlaxcala a day earlier and others arrived in the morning to the race venue.
 
Promptly at 9am it has been given the start on the 1 km circuit. for Children, a category that brought together the largest number of athletes (34 in males and females) and for their age, most saw the presence of family.
Follow the races on the 2 km for Boys B with 27 participants in males and females.
It continued with the 3 km. boys A with 16 total walker between boys and girls, who have seen an increase in the competitive level.
 
The Master category (5 km) was requested by the coaches and was attended by 8 participants, mostly coaches that emphasized at the event.
In U16 and male U18 races, the victory went to the sons of two noble names of Mexican walk.
The U16 were won by Carlos Mercenario (Team Pedro Aroche) son of Carlos Mercenario  Carbajal, Olympic medalist in Barcelona 1992.
In U18 (10km) won Jefferson Segura son of Bernardo Segura Rivera.
 
In the absolute category (10 km) also competed female Valeria Ortuño silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in 2014 and bronze medal in Rome in 2016.
This category was won by Ericka Morales (45:15:26), followed by Gabriela González.
In the same category, in males was won by Ricardo Ortiz (39: 31.09), the second place went to Jorge A. Martinez.
 
The event was judged by five race walking judges.
