This morning (in the night in Europe) in Canberra was held on a distance of 10,000m on track walk the race which was attended by men and women participating in the tradition training camp organized by the Australian Institute or Sport.
The race was seen as progress tests to the work done during the week.
10.000m. track walk women
Six athletes at the start, three of which obtained performances less than 47:00
The victory went to Brigita Virbalyte Dimsiene (LTU) with the time of 46:25.61 (personal best).
Second place to Regan Lamble (AUS), the Australian athlete last year before the Olympic Games has trained in Italy also followed by Gianni Perricelli. The Australian has established her new personal best over the distance this morning with the time of 46:33.47 (previous of 47:55.67 obtained in Moncton, CAN on July 21, 2010)
Third place to Alana Barber (NZL) in 46:36.43. Also for her this performance represents a new personal best over the distance (previous 48:07.56 obtained in Bedford, GBR on June 22, 2014).
Nice the comment of the winner on her Facebook wall-page: "Three chocolate frogs for 1st place in test 10km race".
10.000m. track walk men
Much larger participation with 20 athletes at the start, among which the important names of Jared Tallent (AUS), Evan Dunfee (CAN), Lebogang Shange (RSA) and Isamu Fujisawa (JPN).
Also interesting enough the result of the winner Evan Dunfee (CAN) with the time pf 40:40.29.
The test race finished just over a minute from the personal best (39:21:30 obtained in Coquitlam, CAN on June 11, 2016) says a lot about Canadian athlete's intentions. To remember his exciting 50km in Rio de Janeiro finished fourth place after a race that had seen him for a long time in the head.
Second place to Quentin Rew (NZL) in 41:39.13; even for him new personal best (previous of 41:44.10 obtained in Bedford, GBR June 16, 2013).
Third place to Lebogang Shange (RSA) in 41:56.81. The race of Canberra evidently brings him the positive stimuli, having here last year (January 11, 2016) established his own personal best of 41:02:92.
Jared Tallent has raced for a quiet 45:27.04 (13th place)
