This weekend was of intense activity for Portugal which demonstrates once more its interest in race walking. Portugal is living in this time of a glorious moment after the world record over the distance of 50km women established recently by Ines Henriques .
In addition to the National Indoor Championships for Clubs that have played between yesterday and today in the two locations of Braga and Pombal it was held today in Pechao, Algarve in the 10th edition of the Grand Prix of Race Walk organized by the Club Oriental of Pechao for which is enrolled Ana Cabecinha.
In honor of the Portuguese strong athlete his club organizes from four editions a race walk competition on 5km called Trophy Ana Cabecinha, to which are added other races of shorter distances for the young.
5 km women
With “her” at the start there was absolutely no doubt about who would win the race.
She was the local star and she did the honors.
Ana Cabecinha has won the race with time of 22:24.
Second place to the teamate of Oriental Club Pechao, Edna Barros in 23:57.
Third place, and the first for the category U20, to Carolina Costa in 25:23. Yesterday she stopped the clock at Pombal in the 3,000m indoor in 14:25.12.
Seventeen athletes at the start and all have completed the race
5 km men
Certainly less important the level of men race.
Victory to Dionisio Ventura in 22:52.
Second place to Rodrigo Marques (also the first in U20) in 23:35. Even yesterday he had stopped the clock in Pombal on 5.000m indoor in 22:15.71
Third place to Marco Ataide in 26:38.
Ten athletes at the start and all have completed the race.
