Eighties, engineer and mathematician, professor emeritus of one of the most prestigious Israeli university, he lived the story and ground kilometers walkng: we are talking about Saul Ladany survived the Nazi camp at Bergen Belsen when she was just eight years, and then, almost a theme from the film "The postman always knocks twice", the massacre of 1972 Olympic Games in Monaco.
He is in Rome where he took part Sunday, Jan. 22, in the “Run for Mem(ory)” 2017, which commemorates the symbolic date of the end of the Holocaust, that of the liberation of Auschwitz (January 27).
We remember with the occasion, the beautiful book written about his life as a man and athlete from Tuttosport journalist, Andrea Schiavon, "Five circles and a star," published in 2012 and in 2013 awarded by the prestigious Barcarella Sport.
Since he was 50 years Ladany the day of his birthday is dedicated to walk the same distance of his birthday.
When asked why he do it ranswered that he does, but not for any particular reason. He cited a phrase that usually is said to Israel: "I do not know why I love my mother, but I love her."
This is also the essence of love for race walk. Do not know why but love it anyway.
We end this brief memory of Saul Ladany with an anecdote told by Andrea Schiavon, which we hope will forgive us for not having contacted previously: "I saw him in the family and I asked his oldest grandchild, Shaked, what do you think of a grandfather He is so determined to get up at dawn to go to walk for hours”.
"None of my friends has a grandfather as well," she replied, after thinking a bit on”.
Thank you for being with us Professor Ladany.
