It begins with a bang the series of indoor walking events at the Mandela Forum in Florence for the 32nd consecutive year.
Almost thirty-seven years needed to break a record in U18, which then withstands only 11 days would seem crazy, but it's a reality!
3.000m indoor U18 boys
As part of the Tuscan Indoor Championships U18 in 3000m of indoor walk Davide Finocchietti (Athletic Runners Libertas Livorno) which closed today in 12:31.0 (manual time due to technical problems at the timing) broke again the Italian best time of the distance.
The athlete ofLivorno, who last season won the Italian title in U16, is therefore able to break the 12:34.79 established in Parma on January 22 by Riccardo Orsoni.
Davide Finocchietti, an emerging star of race walking in Tuscany, won on Leonardo Ciregia (13:46.2) and Andrea Cosi (14:08.09)
Already at the Riccardo Orsoni records we had said that the 3,000m indoor walk is an unusual distance, but that in many countries, especially those of English-speaking, are usually covered.
That doesn’t take anything away from this wonderful crosstalk between two specialists in the heel and toe that we hope to see again soon in other competitions, birth pangs of a healthy antagonism growth.
The first direct match that went into last Sunday's competition, at the inaugural event of the Clubs Championships in Grosseto, won by Orson in 8km road walk.
The next direct challenge instead is expected in 5000m indoor Indoor Championships Italian U18 in Ancona, scheduled for February 11.
The best performances of the two athletes on the distance of 5.000m outdoor track are the following:
- Riccardo Orsoni: 21:53.73 obtained in Bergamo on October 01, 2016
- Davide Finocchietti: 22:11:36 obtained in Grosseto on September 24, 2016
