It was the Feb. 29, 1992 twenty five years ago, even though the then leap year oblige us to remember today.
It was held in Genoa (ITA) at the Palaindoor of the Fair the XXII edition of the European Indoor Championships in Athletics.
It was a memorable day for race walk with two great races.
The women's race was won by Alina Ivanova (EUN) in 11:49.99 on Ileana Salvador (ITA) in 11:53.23 and Beate Anders (GER) in 11:55.41.
In that of men earned the title Giovanni De Benedictis (ITA) in 18:19.98 in front of Frantz Kostyukevich (EUN) in 18:25.40 and Stefan Johansson (SWE) in 18:27.95.
This stage was for Jordi Estruch (ESP) his first international appointment as a judge IAAF and was, for our friend of Barcelona, the beginning of a career he still continues.
The curriculum of Jordi Estruch is very long. We only remember his presence at the Olympic Games with his first appearance in Sydney in 2000, followed by Beijing in 2008 and finally to Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
But Jordi Estruch was not only an excellent race walking judge. For many years he has also been part of the international panel of the photo finish judges.

Personally I got to see me as IAAF Technical Delegate on several occasions in which Estruch had an officiating role, and I have always recognized in him not only professional skills but also the right personality that makes a good judge a judge of level.
Jordi Estruch has been over the past 25 years one of the greatest judges on the international scene.
Its always paid commitment to finding the right balance in the races, and the ability to get carefully the correct sense of judgment of the competition have made it one of the most respected within the higher level of IAAF walking judges.
This celebration of the 25 years of international activity allows me to express my heartfelt thanks as Chairman of the IAAF Walking Committee, and the hope that can continue to make his contribution to the world of race walk and, in particular, that of the judgment that is seeing big changes. Changes that do not affect the rules aspect, but the competition management from the point of view of the judge's control, which, if all goes according to plan, will see a great modernization progress with the coaching of electronic technologies.

Se llevó a cabo en Genova (ITA) en el estadio cubierto de la Feria, la XXII edición del Campeonato de Europa en pista cubierta de atletismo.
Fue un día memorable para la marcha con dos grandes pruebas.
La carrera femenina fue ganada por Alina Ivanova (EUN) en 11:49.99 seguida de Ileana Salvador (ITA) en 11:53.23 y Beate Anders (GER) en 11:55.41.
En la prueba masculina el título fue para Giovanni De Benedictis (ITA) en 18:19.98, siendo segundo Frantz Kostyukevich (EUN) en 18:25.40 y tercero Stefan Johansson (SWE) en 18:27.95.
Esta competición fue la primera aparición internacional para Jordi Estruch (ESP) como juez internacional de marcha de la IAAF, siendo el inicio de una carrera que todavía nuestro amigo de Barcelona sigue.
El curriculo de Jordi Estruch es muy largo. Nosotros sólo recordaremos su presencia en los Juegos Olímpicos con su primera aparición en Sydney en 2000, seguido de Beijing en 2008 y en Río de Janeiro en 2016.

Personalmente llegué a verme como Delegado Técnico de la IAAF en varias ocasiones en las que Estruch estuvo en calidad de juez de marcha, y siempre he reconocido en él no sólo las habilidades profesionales, sino también la personalidad que hace que de un buen juez, un mejor juez.
Jordi Estruch ha sido durante los últimos 25 años uno de los jueces más grandes en la escena internacional.
Su compromiso siempre llega a encontrar el equilibrio adecuado en las competiciones, siendo su capacidad de juzgar con cuidado y en momento oportuno de una competición lo que han hecho de él uno de los jueces más respetados dentro del panel internacional de la IAAF.
Esta celebración de los 25 años de actividad internacional me permite expresar mi más sincero agradecimiento como Presidente del Comité de Marcia de la IAAF, y la esperanza de que pueda seguir aportando su contribución al mundo de la marcha, en particular, la del juicio en un tiempo que está viendo cambios importantes. Los cambios que no afectan el aspecto reglamentario, pero la dirección de la competición desde el punto de vista del control del juez, que, si todo va según lo previsto, verá un gran progreso de modernización con la dirección técnica de las tecnologías electrónicas.
