01/03/2017   El Hierro, Canary Islands (ESP): Saturday the 50km and 20km women Spanish Championships






Saturday, March 4 in Valverde in the island of El Hierro, the most westerly of the Canary Islands will host the 86th edition of the Spanish Championship of road walk.

The competition is valid as a selection criterion for the European Cup to be held in Podebrady (CZE) on May 21, 2017.

The best accreditation time is to Jose Ignacio Diaz (3:51:10, dated 2005) before Francisco Arcilla (3:55:06). These are the only two athletes who have entered a time under 4:00:00.

Other athlete of interest are Luis Manuel Corchete (4:03.23, having in any case a personal best 3:59.58 obtained in Pontevedra, ESP il March 4, 2012), but mostly it will be interesting to see the first time on the 50km for the young Diego Garcia (born in 1996) accredited with a PB on 20km of 1:21:36.

 

In 2016 the title was won by Miguel Angel Lopez in 3:53:52 in Puerto Motril on Feb. 28, 2016

 

 

20km women

 

Unfortunately, in the race of women are absent some illustrious names due to injuries and muscle problems.

Will therefore not be the start Julia Takacs (in recovery from a lung disease in July 2016), Raquel Gonzalez (recovering after a knee surgery), Beatriz Pascual and Maria Jose Poves (after-effect of flu), who will try to qualify for the European Cup next April 2, 2017 in Merida (ESP).
