07/04/2017   50km: on the way of European Cup in Podebrady

We continue our presentation of the 2017 European Cup in Podebrady (CZE) on May 21, 2017 focusing now on 50km which unfortunately in these last days and hours is thickened by stormy clouds which we hope will soon resolved favorably.

This race this season was not always chosen by some Local Organizing Committees.

In Europe

The two higher-level competitions for the results obtained and the number of participating athletes were to:

- Dudince (SVK): won in 3:43:40 by Havard Haukenes (NOR) and with 34 athletes at the start

- El Hierro - Valverde (ESP) won in 3:58:51 by Jose Ignacio Dias (ESP) and 18 athletes at the start.

The 50km of Porto de Mos (POR) lived mostly on trying (and got) a world record in women by Ines Henriques (POR), and has seen the start only four athletes with the victory of Gregorio Angelini (ITA) in 4:08:22.

Some higher (12 athletes) has been the participation in La Roche-sur-Yon (FRA) which saw the victory of Hugo Andrieu (FRA) in 4:06:42.

Others 50km Championships were held in Schinias near Marathon i(GRE) with results though of minor importance (both in entries and results).

In the World

Huangshan (CHN) is the nation's leading of participation in 2017 with 56 men and 9 women at the start. The victory went to Niu Wenbin (CHN) in 3:46:12.

Also New Delhi (IND) has seen a good number of athletes at start (23 men) with the victory Sandeep Kumar (IND) in 3:55:59.

Finally in Monterrey (MEX) were 21 the athletes at the start and saw the victory of Evan Dunfee (CAN) in 3:46:03

In 50km also competed in Santee (USA) and Bragança Paiulista (BRA) but in this case with results of minor importance.

In this context, Europe and Worldwide, especially in Europe some Countries of high race walk tradition have preferred a different technical choice by competing in their national championships in 35km instead of the traditional mileage.

- Porto de Mos (POR) saw the start on the 35km of 14 athletes with the victory of Joao Vieira (POR) in 2:38:40

- Ivano-Frankivsk (UKR) saw the start on 35km of eight athletes with the victory of Igor Hlavan (UKR) in 2:31:40

- Grosseto (ITA) saw the start 14 athletes with the victory of Marco De Luca (ITA) in 2:34:48.

Publish so the only list of 50km would not give a correct view of the results of this beginning of the year.

Our decision was therefore to overcome our readers with the two separate rankings, however, limiting it to the first 10 athletes each.

Obviously the list of 35km are excluded walkers of Russia who competed in Sochi (RUS) with some very interesting results.

As for the U20 updated lists over a distance of 10km should be published in the first half of May, as the scheduled calendar is very intense.
