16/04/2017   Taicang (CHN): 50km of China Grand Prix

On the second day of competitions in Taicang (CHN) there is not much to detect.

The races on the program, which obviously were not part of the IAAF Challenge, but the Grand Prix of China were the senior 50km and the 30km reserved to U20

The focus, however, was entirely concentrated on Yu Wei (CHN) (5th place in Rio de Janeiro in 2016) he had in a race test program on 35 km.

The test had to plan a performance around 2:28:00. Unfortunately the weather, not as impossible as yesterday, but certainly not too favorable and the poor mood of the athlete today did not allow the result that the athlete had set.

The athlete of Shandong ended in an anonymous, for him, 2:31:52

These are his split  times every 5 km:

21:16 - 21:28 to 21:28 - 21:36 to 21:45 - 22:23 to 21:57

The split times every 10 km. are: 10 km. = 42.44; 20 km. = 1:25:47 (43.03); 30 km. 2: 09:55 (44.08)

50km

The race was won by Wang Qin (CHN) with the time of 4:00:22.
For him who has a personal best of 3:50:16 set in Huangshan on March 6, 2016 the race was little more than a training and also him as Yu Wei suffered the adverse weather conditions.

Second place to Chen Rui (CHN), at his first experience on the 50km, in 4:04:36.
Just over a month ago, in Huangshan, he had stopped the clock on the 20km in 1:21:30.

Third place to Han Jijiang (CHN) in 4:11:14.
He also just back from the Huangshan 20km where he had stopped the clock in 1:21:55 ends away from their personal best on the 50km (4:03:16) established in Beijing on March 21, 2015 during the selection for that year's World Championships .

Twenty-one athletes at the start, but only 7 finished the 50km; 11 DNF and 3 DQ.
Even three women at the start of 50km; unfortunately none of the three managed to finish the race.

30km U20

Won the 30km junior Lu Ning (CHN) with a time of 2:24:05.
The athlete who had introduced himself to international level last year in Rio Maior winning the race reserved to U20 in 42:37 (but having a  personal best over the distance of 40:58 set in the Changbaishan September 5, 2015) has struggled to get the win in his first 30km.

Stronger competitor was Wen Yongjie (CHN) second in 2:24:27 just 22" behind the winner.
Third place to Li Xiaobing (CHN) in 2:26:43.

Twenty-seven the U20 at the start. Even in this case, the race was very selective and only eight were able to finish it, while 15 DNF and 3 DQ.
