The first day of the XVIII Copa Panamericana de Marcha saw the victory of two of the favorite athletes.
20km men
Immediately to set the pace the best athlete in the leading group.
Eider Arevalo (COL), Omar Pineda (MEX), Benjamin Thorne (CAN) and Manuel Soto (COL) lead halfway through a 10km.
When they missed four laps they remained in the lead of the race Eider Arevalo (COL), Omar Pineda (MEX), Benjamin Thorne (CAN).
Shortly after Eider Arevalo (COL) force again the pace and wins with the unofficial time of 1:21:01.
Second place to Benjamin Thorne (CAN) in 1.21:16 (season best; previous 1:24:52 obtained in Monterrey, MEX on March 19, 2017)
Third place to Omar Pineda (MEX) in 1:22:00 (season best; previous 1:22:28 obtained in Ciudad Juarez, MEX ion March 12, 2017)
Fourth place to Erik Barrondo (GUA) in 1:22:40 (season best; previous 1:23:55 obtained in Rio Maior, POR on April 1, 2017)

20km women
Immediately there is a group consisting of Maria Guadalupe Goinzalex (MEX), Maria Guadalupe Sanchez Magana (MEX), Kimberly Garcia (PER) and Paula Perez (ECU).
They earn about twenty meters on the pack.
Just before 5 km Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez (MEX) force the pace and only Kimberly Garcia (PER) remains with her. Split time at 4km is 21:50.
The two athletes walk almost shoulder to shoulder, but it is always Mexican to lead. The Peruvian therefore shows a beautiful technical pace with a manual movement of hips.
When they miss 13 rounds to the end, Maria Guadalupe Goinzalex (MEX) still force the pace and earns about five meters on the rival.
At 9km always the Mexican to lead at 39:30, Kimberly Garcia (PER) recovered and passed in 39:31.
They are also together at half race, but immediately after Maria Guadalupe Gonzalex (MEX) earns a few meters on the Peruvian.
At 11km Maria Guadalupe Gonzalex (MEX) leads in 50.08 and Kimberly Garcia (PER) follows in 50:10.
Wiith seven laps to go (13km), the advantage of Maria Guadalupe Gonzalex (MEX) increased to 11"(57:12 vs. 57:22 by Kimberly Garcia).
Always third is Paula Perez (ECU) and fourth is Maria Guadalupe Sanchez Magana (MEX).
Follows (perfct Team) Sandra Lorena Arenas (COL), Sandra Viviana Galvis (COL) and Arabelly Orjuela (COL).
At four laps to go Kimberly Garcia (PER) halved the disadvantage and now follows Maria Guadalupe Gonzalex (MEX) (1:10.45 vs. 1:10:53) but is the swan song.
The Mexican still force again the pace and when misses two laps she has an advantage of about 20" on the home athlete.
Always third is Paula Perez (ECU) and in fourth place is Sandra Lorena Arenas (COL) followed by teammate Sandra Viviana Galvis (COL)

The test ends in the final with the victory of Alexander David Hurtado (ECU) in 40:56.
The young Ecuadorian has the best on Jose Eduardo Ortiz (GUA) for only 2" (40:58).
Bronze to Gustavo Israel Solis (MEX) in 41:33.
Fourth place to Andres Eduardo Olivas (MEX) in 41:50.
For all four, these results represent the new personal bests and are the only four athletes to broke the wall of 42:00.

Won the U20 women race Alegna Aryday Gonzalez (MEX) in 45:17 (South America's U20 record equaled, preceded by Sandra Lorena Arenas, COL in Salinas, ECU on March 17, 2012)
Second place to Maria Fernandez Montoya (COL) in 46:40.
Thierd place to Glenda Estefania Marejon (ECU) in 46:27.
Follow a trio of Peru with:

who competed in particular for the team standings, which among other things they won.
It is very interesting to note that, with the time of 22:42, 5km passage Glenda Estefania Morejion (ECU) also broke South America U18 record that was 27 years old and belonged to Miriam Ramon (ECU) in 23:00 established in Guayaquil on October 11, 1990)
