14/05/2017   Lima (PER): In 50km vitories of Claudio Paulino Villanueva (ECU) and Nair Da Rosa (BRA)






 

The second day, that of the 50km, offers a nice surprise:

 
- six women representing four countries to fight for the Cup: one from Brazil, two from the USA, two from Peru and one from Ecuador
 
- they are in 20 men at the start.

A group of five athletes is formed immediately to lead the race on the course that today is of 2.000m per 25 laps.
 
They are Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU), José Leonardo Montana (COL), Luis Fernando Lopez (COL), Jorge Armando Ruiz (COL), José Alessandro Bagio (BRA) and Luis Alfonso Lopez Menjivar (ESA).
It is clear the intention of Colombia athletes, led by expert Luis Fernando Lopez (1979) World Champion 20km in Daegu 2011, to put their hands on the 50km cup.
 
- at 10km: there are seven athletes in the leading group. The six leaders now joined by Mathieu Bilodeau (CAN).
The pack is leaded, shoulder to shoulder, by Luis Fernando Lopez (COL) and by Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU)
 
- at 20km: the group goes on together and leads Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU)
 
- between 20 and 30 km the situation is more or less the same.
Force the pace after 36km Luis Fernando Lopez (COL) and Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU) and when they miss 14km they lead on Jose Leonardo Montana (COL) and Mathieu Bilodeau (CAN).
 
- At 40km they are headed shoulder to shoulder Luis Fernando Lopez (COL) and Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU) at 3:04:52. Follow Jose Leonardo Montana (COL) at 3:06:02
- 4 laps to go Luis Fernando Lopez (COL) and Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU) pass in 3:13:55. Try to force Claudio Villanueva, but Luis Fernando Lopez resists.
- 3 laps to go they pass together in 3:23:24
- 2 laps to go always shoulder to shoulder in 3:32:43.
In third place is still Jose Leonardo Montana (COL).
 
At the bell Luis Fernando Lopez (COL) and Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU) arrive shourlder to shoulder in 3:42:15 and the Colombian congratulates the opponent. It will be the last lap to decide who will be the winner.
We are preparing for a final of hearth attack in Peru, but it will not be so. The intelligence of athletes prevails and they decide to come together shoulder to shoulder, leaving the winner's decision to chance. They arrive at 3:51:35. The victory is awarded to Claudio Paulino Villanueva Flores (ECU).
 
Third place to Jose Leonardo Montana (COL) at 3:58:28 in front of Mathieu Bilodeau (CAN) in 3:59:43.
Only these four athletes under the wall of 4:00:00.

At 10km of female race to lead is a couple composed of Nair Da Rosa (BRA) and Yoci Caballero (PER).
The Brazilian returns to race 50km after less than 70 days since last March 5, 2017 stopped the clock in  Bragança Paulista (BRA) on 5:13:48.
 
The women's race is on the duel between Nair Da Rosa (BRA) and Yoci Caballero (PER).
At seven laps from the end the Brasilian leads on home athlete.
Nair Da Rosa (BRA) pass at 36km in 3:16:08. Yoci Caballero (PER) follows in 3:18:01.
