Today, during the Diamond League in London, after years of exclusion from the most prestigious meetings, a race walk on the mile took place.
It was the first time in the Diamond League.
Immediately to lead Callum Wilkinson (GBR) in front of the race for almost two minutes, after a split time at 400m of 1:22:45
At two laps and a half from the end goes to lead Tom Bosworth (GBR) who passed at 800m in 2:45.72, followed by Diego Garcia (ESP) and Erick Barrondo (GUA).
At 1200m still leads Bosworth in 4:07.26 followed by Erick Barrondo (GUA) and Perseus Karlstrom (SWE). Fourth is Callum Wilkinson who precedes Diego Garcia.
Tom Bosworth (GBR) continues to force the pace and gain a few meters.
He wins the mile race in 5:31.08 new world record.
Second to the finish line arrives Erick Barrondo (unofficial: 5:34.95) but after a while he is disqualified by the jury.
Second place then for Diego Garcia (ESP) in 5:36.27, best result ever in Spain on the distance.
Third to the finish line is Callum Wilkinson (unofficial: 5:36.31), but he also suffers the same fate as Barrondo
Third place then for Perseus Karlstrom (SWE) in 5:38.18
