08/09/2017   Athens (GRE): Race Walking Camp 2017

Again this year Athens hosted a race walk Camp managed by Napoleon Kefalopoulos.

It was this the eighth edition that took place at Agios Andreas beach, about fifty miles east of Athens, on a Campus in the middle of a forest with almost perfect time (29°C in the afternoon of the day of the testing race).
Around 60 young athletes from Greece, as well as others from Serbia, and Italy with their respective coaches, attended the Walking Camp.
The great surprise of the organizers was that they had the participation of 24 young athletes (born in 2004-2007) at the Camp.

At the end of the course, on a 1,000m lap in the forest, the presence of local authorities (the street was given by the vice-mayor of Athens Christina Vasiliou) were held races reserved for U13, U15, U17 and U19 .

The two most important races, those over the 5 km distance, reserved for the senior and U23 were won by:

5km women

Victory for Zoe Korkou (GRE) at 27:33 in front of Evagelia Vaitsi (GRE) in 28:37

5km men

First place to Georgios Tzatzimakis (GRE) who confirmed the great season I saw coming to the eighth place at the U20 European Championship in Grosseto, winning at 20:47 (new personal best).
Second place to Joannis Vaitsis (GRE) in 21:15
Third place to Manuel Giordano (ITA) in 22:13
