Nikolay Ivanov (RUS) born on December 21, 1993, has never been one of the top athletes of the walking Russian.

It was, however, what in jargon called a "good walker".

This year he had not competed and his personal records had never been such that he could stand in the top 100 athletes in the world rankings.

These were his best performances:

- at 20km: 1:28:43 obtained in Sochi (RUS) on Feb. 27, 2015

- on 50km: 4.13: 33 obtained at Chihuahua (MEX) on 7.3.2015

In short, a second row for the Russian battleship, but he was probably a big-hearted man.

On the night of September 15, 2017, the 23-year-old Russian did not hesitate to stood up and take the defense for a young girl who had just been molested by a drunken hooligan.

The drunken stranger has extracted a knife and injured the athlete with slider that opened a wound to his stomach.

Afterwards, athlete coach Sergey Osipov gave R-Sport the sad news that Nikolay Ivanov died.

Initially, the criminal case was filed with the accused of “intentional infliction of a grave injury which has involved the death of the victim by negligence.”  It was subsequently reclassified into murder.
