Not only twenty athletes who participated in the 2017 World Championships including the two bronze medals of Caio Bonfim (20km men) and Antonella Palmisano (20km women) competing in Taihu, but also a good group of young athletes.
For some years now, local organizers have opened up to the U18 athletes.
Distances this year were the same as in 2016, which for convenience is shown below:
- 1st stage: Taihu - km 9
- 2nd Stage: Mudu - km 6
- 3rd stages: Yuanboyuan - km 7
- 4th stages: Dongshan - km 4.3
Strange distances for the European world, but with a precise philosophical choice below: to direct young athletes, even in four days of race, over a long distance. In fact, little more than half of a 50km.
The races took place under the aegis of the Department of Youth at the Athletics Administration Center, which reports to the General Sports Administration in China.
The interest of the Provinces for this promotional event was quite large, also in view of the final prizes made available at the Province or City that got a place between the 1st and the 6th place.
The encouragement awards for the activity of race walk were:
- to the Province or City ranked first: 30,000 Remimbi Yuan (just over 3,800 Euros, which are not so few in a country where, outside the areas of high tourist interest, you can safely eat well in street-food with less than 10 Euros)
- to the second ranked Province or City: 20,000 Remimbi Yuan
- to the third ranked Province or City: 18,000 Remimbi Yuan
- to the fourth ranked Province or City: 16,000 Remimbi Yuan
- to the fifth ranked Province or City: 14,000 Remimbi Yuan
- to the sixth ranked Province or City: 12,000 Remimbi Yuan
Around Taihu U18 boys
Provinces and/or Cities participated with 32 U18 boys (23 born in 2001 and 9 born in 2002 but they did not participate in the first 9km race.
The final standings were won by Wang Zhenhao (born 12.9.2001) with the final time of 2:03:55
The young athlete of the Western Group of Xianty had the following rankings and ended his effort without any penalty by the international jury:
- 1st stage: Taihu - km 9 - 1st place in 46:21
- 2nd stage: Mudu - km 6 - 2nd place in 26:56
- 3rd stage: Yuanboyuan - km 7 - 1st place in 31:59
- 4th stage: Dongshan - km 4.3 - 3rd place in 18:39
Second place for Liu Haoxiang, belonging to the Suzhou Sports School, in 2:05:07. These are his performances:
- 1st stage: Taihu - km 9 - 4th place in 47:21
- 2nd stage: Mudu - km 6 - 3rd place in 27:00
- 3rd stage: Yuanboyuan - km 7 - 2nd place in 32:21
- 4th stage: Dongshan - km 4.3 - 1st place in 18:25
Third place for Lu Zheng of the Western Group of Xianty with the final time of 2:05:58. These are his performances:
- 1st stage: Taihu - km 9 - 2nd place in 46:42
- 2nd stage: Mudu - km 6 - 4th place in 27:03
- 3rd stage: Yuanboyuan - km 7 - 5th place in 33:38
- 4th stage: Dongshan - km 4.3 - 2nd place in 18:35
Around Taihu U18 girls
Provinces and/or Cities participated with 26 U18 (14 born in 2001, 10 born in 2002 and 2 born in 2003). Born in 2002 and 2003 did not participate in the first 9km test.
The final standings were won by Li Xiaolan (born 3.12.2001) with the final time of 2:13:44
Wulanchabu's young athlete had the following placings, and ended his effort without any penalties from the international jury:
- 1st stage: Taihu - km 9 - 2nd place in 50:21
- 2nd stage: Mudu - km 6 - 1st place in 28:34
- 3rd stage: Yuanboyuan - km 7 - 1st place in 34:13
- 4tg stages: Dongshan - km 4.3 - 1st place in 20:36
Second place for Gao Wenliang, Yangzhou, at 2:18:20. These are her performances:
- 1st stage: Taihu - km 9 - 1st place in 50:05
- 2nd stage: Mudu - km 6 - 2nd place in 29:53
- 3rd stage: Yuanboyuan - km 7 - 3rd place in 37:06
- 4th stage: Dongshan - km 4.3 - 2rd place in 21:16
Third place for Li Yiting of Shenzhen with the final time of 2:22:42. These are her performances:
- 1st stage: Taihu - km 9 - 4th place in 55:01
- 2nd stage: Mudu - km 6 - 3rd place in 30:52
- 3rd stage: Yuanboyuan - km 7 - 2nd place in 35:18
