15/10/2017   Barcellona: 95th anniversary of first Spanish Championships in race walk of 50km

Today, a tweet by Miguel Calvo reminds us of an event that we would not want to go unnoticed: the 95th anniversary of the first Spain Championship of race walk in Barcelona.

It was on October 15, 1922 when it was in Barcelona for 50km of the 1st Spanish Championship, scheduled to depart at 6.00am in the morning, but delayed by an hour following a strong thunderstorm.
They took part in 51 of the 56 registered walkers and the championship was won by Alberto Chariot in 5:14:15.4 in front of Francisco Albesa (5:20:46.2) and Enrique Buendia (5:27:59.8).

A recurrence like this can only be remembered through the words and the tale made by Miguel Calvo on the website of the Real Federation Espanola de Atletismo

To Spanish friends we say: congratulations !
