22/11/2017   News on 50km women

The Real Federación Española de Atletismo also announced that on 25 February 2018, in conjunction with the LXXXVIII edition of the 50km road walk men will also play on the race for women.

Currently the Spanish record on the distance, that was recognized at IAAF level in 2017, is held by Maria Dolores Marco Valero (ESP).
The 38-year-old Spanish competed in Naumburg (GER) last April 23, 2017, ending the race in 4:48:26  that puts her this year at the 19th place in the world list.

There are 32 women in the season 2017 who have competes in the 50km (on December 3 in Melbourne is entered to the 50km Australian Championships Claire Tallent) for a total of 43 performances.

Let's analyze these 43 performances:

Time range Athletes number Performances number Nations number

less than 4:25:00 5 7 4

between 4:25:01 and 4:40:00 10 12 4

between 4:40:01 and 5:00:00 12 13 7

higher than 5:00:00 11 11 7

In Spain, the Spanish record begins to sneak at another athlete: Ainhoa Pinedo Gonzalez (ESP), who has begun preparing for the next season just focoused to 50km race.

But it is from the other part of the world that comes the most interesting news.
In those days of if first week of December, the Olympic Champion Liu Hong (CHN) should give birth to a little girl.
It is therefore conceivable that training will begin within a couple of months.
From rumors of the environment it would seem that Liu Hong has the main goal of the season to obtain the new world record on distance, getting a time less than 4:00:00.

If that happens Liu Hong would at the same time hold both records of 20km and 50km.
At male level had already happened for a single set of weeks (between March 8, 2015 and March 15, 2015) to Yohann Diniz (FRA).
