Unfortunately due to the Bureau of Meteorology still forecasting severe rainfall, thunderstorms, and flood warnings across Victoria for Saturday and into Sunday and Emergency Management Victoria advising of the risks and unpredictability of a superstorm and recommending events in the warning area be cancelled, Athletics Australia are forced to cancel the Australian 50km Racewalking Championships and supporting events at Fawkner Park, Melbourne for the safety of athletes, officials, staff and spectators. 

We understand the inconvenience this change will cause but unfortunately participant, spectator and staff safety must be considered. 

Athletics Australia will look to reschedule the Australian 50km Racewalking Championships (and supporting events) and will communicate this information on Monday 4th December. 

Athletics Australia’s hand has been forced on this issue, as all sporting events are being cancelled across Victoria – park runs, Athletics Victoria interclub, Little Athletics, cricket, soccer, etc. 

This is especially difficult for all those who have travelled from interstate or overseas. 

Hopefully the meet can be rescheduled for one of the other Sundays in December. Stay tuned to the Athletics Australia facebook page for further updates next week.
