22/12/2017   Matej Toth (SVK) cleared of doping after eight months

The alleged case of doping by Matej Toth ended positively after eight months of uncertainty.

The IAAF, represented by the Athletics Integrity Unit, will not appeal to the Court of Arbitration (CAS) against the verdict of the Disciplinary Board of the Slovak Athletic Union in the case of Matej Tóth. On Thursday evening December 21, 2018 the IAAF informed the Secretary General of the Slovak Federation (SAZ) and the lawyer of Matei Toth, Martina Maisnera.

In practice, this means that the Olympic champion of Rio de Janeiro 2016 and World Champion in Beijing 2015 in the 50 km walk is free from charges of violating anti-doping regulations. Matei Toth can therefore return again in competition events.

"I am, of course, extremely happy that this has come to an end after almost eight months" said 34-year-old Tóth, responding to the verdict of the IAAF.

"It will be one of my most beautiful Christmas in life, I have received a beautiful gift under the tree. I look forward to the truth. I thank all who helped me during this difficult period, supported me, believed me, and had faith in me even in moments when I no longer believed that justice would win.

I'm glad IAAF anti-doping experts have recognized that my only deviation in the biological passport of the athlete was just a consequence of the natural physiological state of my organism. "
