25/01/2018   Grosseto (ITA): Sunday first leg of Clubs Championships

And finally, race walk with the first phase of the Clubs Championships, the heir of what had been years before the Winter Race Walking Trophy, also appears in the national limelight.

For the second consecutive year Grosseto will host this event which should be large enough for the organizers' satisfaction.
The races on which the athletes will compete will be those of:
- 35km: men and women
- 20km: men and women and U20 men
- 15km: U20 women
- 10km: U18 students and students
with tests on the 4km for the U16 and 2km for the U14.
The 20km race with the highest number of registered athletes is also valid as the Italian Master Championships.

35km men

At least on paper should be the most interesting race.
Marco de Luca (ITA), Federico Tontodonati (ITA), Michele Antonelli (ITA) and Andrea Agrusti (ITA) will play with it.
The best time on the distance is the one claimed by Marco de Luca (2:28:53) established in Montalto di Castro on January 24, 2010
Federico Tontodonati follows him with 2:36:33 established in Latina on January 29, 2012.
Michele Antonelli will compete for the first time on 35km, but on the occasion of the bronze in the European Cup at Podebrady last May 21, 2017 his split time to 35km was 2:42:40.
The same goes for Andrea Agrusti who in the European Cup passed to 35km in 2:44:27

It will be very interesting to see Giorgio Rubino competing on a distance that is unusual for him, but in Latina on January 29, 2012 he had obtained a very interesting 2:33:52 which is the second time among the entries.
A time similar to that of Andrea Agrusti is that of Stefano Chiesa (2:44:36) obtained on this same course last year and that had earned him the bronze behind Marco de Luca and Federico Tontodonati.

Finally Leonardo Dei Tos: he too has never raced on 35km, but on 30km his personal best is 2:23:49 dating back to 2013.

The season list 2018 on the distance is the following

35km women

The recent inclusion of the 50km in the international program has fostered interest in all countries over the long distance races.
In Grosseto, if they will all be at the start, they should be eight.

The favorites for the win should be Mariavittoria Becchetti and Tatyana Gabellone who, on the 20km, both have a pretty similar time: Becchetti (1:34:01) and Gabellone (1:34:42).
