Italian U18 Championships today in Ancona.
3.000m indoor U18 Girls
Departure on the basis of 3: 45/km.
Four athletes are leading the 600m covered in 2:51 and are Simona Bertini, Ida Mastrangelo, Sara Buglisi and Martina Casiraghi.
After a few laps, Martina Casiraghi took the lead, and went ahead. The four are clearly separated from the others.
Split time at 1.000m: 4:45.1
At about 1,700m Martina Casiraghi, however, pays the price of this attempt and loses positions.
The situation is as follows: Ida Mastrangelo (ITA) and Simona Bertini (ITA) in the lead, in third position at about ten meters Sara Buglisi (ITA), and still about ten meters after Martina Casiraghi (ITA).
The split time to 2,000m is 9:31.5 (4:45.1 + 4:46.4)
Martina Casiraghi still loses ground and is overtaken by Federica Marchese Ragona (ITA) who will then be re-passed.
One lap to the end force the pace Ida Mastrangelo and goes to win in 14:05.38 new personal best (previous of 15:19.30 obtained in Ancona on March 8, 2015)
Second place to Simona Bertini in 14:07.53.
Important improvement for this young U18 girl who passes from 17:33.07 obtained in Parma on Jan. 22, 2017 to today's result.
Third place for Sara Buglisi in 14:24.87 new personal best (previous of 15:17.58 obtained in Ancona on Feb 11, 2017).
Twenty-two athletes at the start, of which twenty have completed the race and two DNF.
5.000m indoor U18 boys
Immediately two news: the first was the absence of Davide Finocchietti, who was the main favorite, the second a false start, which is difficult to see in race walk.
After the second start Aldo Andrei (ITA) goes to lead, followed by Gabriele Gamba (ITA), Andrea Cosi (ITA) and Andrea Breda (ITA).
They pass at 1,000m in 4:29.6
After the first 1,000 meters Andrea Breda comes off.
At 2,000 meters (9:06.0) remain in two: Gabriele Gamba and Aldo Andrei.
Gamba forces the pace and detaches of a few meters Andrei.
Continue with the following steps to
- 3.000m in 13:31.5
- 4.000m in 18:00.7
Gabriele Gamba (ITA) no longer has any difficulty and goes on to win in 22:27.22 (he boasted in U16 a 19:06.02 obtained in Padua on Feb. 12, 2017)
Second place to Aldo Andrei (ITA) in 22:55.15 new personal best (previous of 23:18.32 obtained in Ancona on Feb. 11, 2017).
Third place to Giulio Scoli (ITA) in 23:07.89 in front of Andrea Cosi (23:09.80).
For both athletes these performances are the new personal bests that were for Scoli (22:46.79) and for Cosi (23:22.13).
Pit lane and judgment
In the two races there was no athlete disqualified, thanks to the application of the Pit Lane Rule.
In the boy's race, with 22 athletes at the start, they ended in the Pit Lane Area (and with the old rules would have been disqualified) only two athletes with three red cards each, all for bent knee.
In all the two events, 27 red cards were issued (9 in girls and 18 in boys) for the following infractions:
- 2 for loss of contact with the ground and 7 for bent kneein women
- 18 for bent knee in men
