19/02/2018   Pitalito (COL): Victories of Omar Sierra, Jose Montana and Sandra Lorena Arenas at Colombian Championships






 

Pitalito (COL) hosted the National Championship of Colombia of rave walk on Sunday, February 18, 2018.
The races scheduled were as follows:
- an uncommon 40km men that took place in the morning starting at 6:00
- the 20km of women that took place in the morning starting at 7:30 
- the 20km of men that took place in the afternoon starting at 15:00 
In the afternoon there were also the two 10km reserved for the U20, while in the morning some events were held for the U18 and minor categories.
 
The races were valid as a selection for the team that will represent the Colombia in next South American Race Walk Championships that will take place in Sucua (ECU) the next March 10 and 11, 2018.
 
 
40km men
 
This uncommon distance saw the victory of Omar Sierra (COL), athlete of Bogota, in 3:06:49. To make a comparison with the values ​​on the 50km and/or the usual 35km, below we indicate the personal best of Omar Sierra on these distances.
- 50km: 3:59:08 - obtained in Taicang (CHN) on May 3, 2014
- 35km: 2:41:49 - obtained in Bogota (COL) on March 28, 2015
He participated in the 40km off the Championships Helder Santos (POR) which ranked second in 3:12.12.
