20/05/2018   Brixen (ITA): Simona Bertini and Davide Finocchietti win the 36th Brixia Meeting

Today the 36th Brixia Meeting took place in Bressanone with two races on the distance of 5,000m track walk

The races of the categories of the years 2001 and lower were open, as per the Brixia Meeting regulations, also to the foreign selections of Baden Wuerteberg, Bavaria (GER) and Slovenia, in addition to the regional Italian representatives.
I substance a good participation in the stadium that hosted the 2009 World Youth Championships.

5.000m track walk women

The big favorite was Ida Mastrangelo (ITA) unbeaten this season in Italy in 5.000m. track walk.

Below her results:

DATE COMPETITION PLACE RESULT

13 JAN 2018  Bari  1.  25:15.9h
22 APR 2018  Acquaviva delle Fonti  1.  25:22.63
06 MAY 2018  Matera Regional Ch.  1.  24:37.49
12 MAY 2018  Bari  1.  24:22.41

Unfortunately for her the race did not go according the expectations.
Head athletes have moved to 1,000m in 5:02.1, 2.000m in 10:07.7 and 3.000m in 15:08.1
Ida Mastrangelo, who usually expresses a technical level that is accepted by the judges, was evidentlyin  a bad day.
She was first penalized after the third red card with 30" spent in the Pit Lane Area and then definitively disqualified when the fourth red card arrived.

Victory then for Simona Bertini (ITA) in 24:51.25 very close to the personal best of 24:48.99 established last weekend (May 12, 2018) in Reggio Emilia (ITA).
With the performance of Reggio Elimia Simona Bertini is currently at the tenth position in the U18 world list for the 2018 season on distance.
It is also nice to note that until today in the 2018 season there are only three athletes who have replicated a result below 25:00.00 on the 5,000m track walk U18.

They are:
- Caitlin Hanningan (AUS): 23:44.69 in Brisbane (AUS) on Mar. 3, 2018 and 23:50.93 in Brisbane (AUS) on Feb. 22, 2018
- Ida Mastrangelo (ITA): 24:22:41 in Bari (ITA) on May 12, 2018 and 24:37.49 in Matera (ITA) on May 6, 2018
- Simona Bertini (ITA): 24:48:99 in Reggio Emilia (ITA) on May 12, 2018 and today's result.

Following the seasonal U18 world list updated to date.

5.000m track walk men

The race was held concurrently with that of women, but with departure and development in an external lane.
Probably not used to this type of management of the race, will be the cause of the technical error that has led all athletes to cover an extra lap.

Therefore the jury has only formalized the order of arrival without the final chronometric performance.
The times of the steps were however the following:
- 1.000m: 4:31:0
- 2.000m: 8:54.8 (4:23.8)
- 3.000m: 13:17.2 (4:22.4)
- 4.000m: 17:36.7 (4:19.5)

Victory to Davide Finocchietti (ITA) in front of Daniele Breda (ITA) and Emiliano Brigante (ITA).
