16/06/2018   Rieti (ITA): Davide Finocchietti and Simona Bertini win U18 Championships

On the first day the event of walk is the last race scheduled.

A correct decision being the coolest hour of the day.

10,000m track walk U18 boys

Four are immediately to lead: Davide Finocchietti, Daniele Breda, Gabriele Gamba and Aldo Andrei.

They pass at 1,000m in 4:19:29.
At 2.000m nothing changes, they are always in four in the lead, and always leads the group Davide Finocchietti (8:45.74).
At 3,000m they pass in 13:09.57
At Halfway the situation is still the same (21:58.01)

Forces the pace Davide Finocchietti and lose a few meters Daniele Gamba, while the other two maintain the pace of the leader. Gamba is about eight meters.
At 6,000m (26:18.06) Davide Finocchietti is still in the lead. Gamba loses some meters.
Daniele Breda ends up in the Penalty Area (he will also be disqualified after) and will remain in the head Finocchietti and Andrei.
Forces the pace again Davide Finocchietti and it seems that no one is able to follow him. At 7,000m his  spliti time is 30:39.99. But Aldo Andrei manages to catch him.
Ali 8.000m Davide Finocchietti passes in 35:04.14 with Aldo Andrei immediately behind.
Another forcing of Finocchietti, but Andrei only loses a few meters.
The split time to 9,000m is 39:30.56

5.000m track walk U18 girls

There was a battle between three athletes and so it was.

Martina Casiraghi (ITA) immediately took the lead, passing the first 1,000 meters in 5: 03.0.
Behind her Ida Mastrangelo (ITA), Simona Bertini (ITA) and for some laps also Sara Buglisi (ITA).
Even at 2.000m Martina Casiraghi is leading in 9:58.5. Despite the fastest pace the two main pursuers Mastrangelo and Bertini are closer.
At about 2.800m Martina Casiraghi is catched by the two pursuers, but immediately Ida Mastrangelo is stopped by the jury in the Penalty Area, for 30".

In the meantime, Simona Bertini has just left Martina Casiraghi and passes the lead at 3,000m in 14:51.8.
Ida Mastrangelo is not of the idea to lose at least the silver, and when she comes out of the Penalty Area she tries to reach Martina Casiraghi who is a little bit in trouble and is only 80m in front of her.
Unfortunately, she is punished by the jury with the fourth red card that involves the disqualification (it is the second in the last two races).

Simona Bertini has meanwhile detached Martina Casiraghi and flies to victory after being passed at 4.000m in 19: 34.2
