24/06/2018   Warsaw (POL): Victories of Richard Vargas (VEN) and Paulina Buziak (POL)






Saturday morning (starting at 7:45) at the Warsaw Academy of Physical Education (for the eleventh time in the history of the capital) the Polish race walk championships of 20km started with 12 men and 10 women registered.

 
The test of men, however, also saw the start an athlete from Venezuela, Richard Vargas (VEN) who gave a special character of internationality to the Championship.

It has been a competition that until the last has left with bated breath to know the name of who crossed the finish line first.
At the end the victory went to the host athlete, Richard Vargas (VEN) who finished the race in 1:22:10
 
Only 9" separated him from Artur Brzozowski (POL) (33 years old) who, for the third time in his career, won the title, in 1:22:19.
Third place on the finish line, but silver in the Polish Championships, is Dawid Tomala (POL) spaced 25 seconds (1:22:44) from Brzozowski who  arrived in front of Rafal Sikora (1:23.58).
 
Artur Brzozowski had won the editions of 2013 and 2017, while Dawid Tomala who had previously obtained in the Polish Championships two bronze medals has now obtained silver
For Rafal Sikora it was the first medal 20 km (which however climbed four on the podium of 50 km).
 
 
 
20km women
 
 
Paulina Biziak (POL) won the race with a time of 1:35:36. The almost 33-year-old Polish left her main rival at 1:30.
The battle for the remaining medals was very interesting and ended only inside the track.
The 21-year-old Katarzyna Zdziebło (POL) (1:37:06) came out victorious, winning the silver medal with two seconds ahead of Olga Niedziałek (POL) (1:37:06) and seven seconds on Joanna Bemowską (1:37:13)
 
With this victory Paulina Buziak triumphed for the fourth time in the Polish Championship (2012 and from 2016 to 2018).
Catherine Zdziebło, who collected nine Polish titles in the categories U16 to U23, obtained her first high-level silver medal on Saturday.
The young Olga Niedziałek has improved personal record of 1:49 (previous of 1:38:57 obtained in Zaniemsyl, POL on April 22, 2017).
