27/06/2018   Leeds (GBR) - Tom Bosworth and Bethan Davies win British Championships






British race walking witnessed a historic day in Leeds as four athletes secured selection for the European Championships for the first time in 28 years.

 

 

20km men

 

Tom Bosworth (GBR) win the Grand Prix titles and British titles, qualifying for August’s European Championships in Berlin.

In the men’s 20km race, Bosworth went to the front from the start on his home circuir and soon established a lead ahead of Callum Wilkinson (GBR), Miroslav Uradnik (SVK) and Cameron Corbishley (GBR).

The Commonwealth silver medallist passed 5km in 20:27 with the chasing trio 30 seconds behind,

Tom Bosworth then passed halfway in 41:08 with the chasing pack in 41:53. 

Soon after halfway mark Cameron Corbishley began to force the pace, but before the 13km was disqualified.

Miroslav Uradnik and Callum Wilkinson passed 15km in 1:02:57, just under a minute behind Bosworth. 

The leader then maintained his leading position and finished the race in 1:23:10, to record a hat-trick of British Grand Prix titles and his seventh British title.

 

Second place to Miroslav Uradnik (SVK) moved ahead of Wilkinson to record the new personal best of 1:24:09

Callum Wilkinson (GBR) secured his participation in Berlin with 1.244:21 with his third place as Guy Thomas (GBR) arrived fourth but took third in the British Championships and took the Welsh title after clocking 1:29:32.

Easy victory for Bethan Davies (GBR) in 1:36:55

Second place to Heather Lewis (GBR) in 1:39:06

Third place to Erika Kelly (GBR) in 1:41:30
