The choice of the athlete of month of June 2018 marks a turning point, as a watershed, in what according to Marcia dal Mondo should be the main choice of the result.
The Russian Championships at Cheboksary brought to the fore the results of high time value at both the men's and women's events.

Although for the international lists are still valid having been obtained by athletes in their National Championships and probably with qualified national juries, we can not forget the following:
- on 25 April the Rusada opened an investigation into the presence of Russian athletes in the city of Karakol in Issyk-Kul in the Kyrgyz Republic and ascertained their presence in a training center with the direct involvement of the disqualified coach Viktor Chegin;
- after, at the eve of the 2018 World Team Championships in Taicang (CHN), the IAAF doping review committee decided to revoke the status of neutral athlete to the following five athletes: Klavdiya Afanasyeva, Olga Eliseeva, Yuliya Lipanova, Sergey Sharypov and Sergey Shirobokov. Of these five Sergey Shirobokov and Klavdiya Afanasyeva were protagonists of important results in the 20km men (1:17:25) and in the 50km women (4:14:46) in Chebksary;
- in the Cheboksary races three other athletes have achieved high-level results: Sergey Bakulin (50km in 3:42.20) and Dementiy Cheparev (50km in 3:54.20), but above all Yelena Lashmanova who, in the 20km of the women, has obtained a historic 1:23:39
In particular, the latter (but our consideration applies to all those indicated above) would be the new world record for which "condicio sine qua non" is the presence in the judging body of at least three international judges of Level 3 or Level 2. RusAthletics itself recognizes the lack of this requirement.
For consistency we ought to exclude these results from our nominations.
We were already begaved in a similar way in the choice of the athlete of February 2018 when we excluded the same Sergey Bakulin at the male level, and at the female level the same Yelena Lashmanova, and her teammates Mariya Ponomariyova and Sofia Brodatskaya. Both four athletes had competed in Sochi (RUS) with excellent results.
