A beautiful walk evening that offered by the Pravda-Televizia-Slovnaft Meeting of Samorin, a suburb about twenty minutes by car from Bratislava that included two events on the 3.000m track walk in its Meeting (now at 53rd edition).
3.000m men's track walk
They challenged themselves in fourteen in an attempt to break down the best world performance of the year achieved by Dane Bird-Smith on March 28 in Brisbane (AUS) in 10:56.06.
They were two Poles, one South African, three from the Czech Republic, one Hungarian and seven Slovakian athletes among which Matej Toth who was competing after the 50km of Dudince (SVK) in which, net of the performance of Bakulin in Cheboksary (RUS), is today the best world performance of the year on 50km.
Very fast start and first 1,000m with Lebogang Shange (RSA) in 3:39.47. Together with him Dawid Tomala (POL).
The pace slows down a little at 2.000m is the South African the leader in 7:20.75 (seconds 1.000m in 3:51.22).
But the aim to improve the best world performance of the year by Dane Bird-Smith (AUS) between the two leaders is great and so the pace returns to increase.
Victory to Dawid Tomala (POL) in 10:56.98 new personal best. For only 92/100 of a second, the Australian holds the top of the 2018 world rankings. For only 54/100 of a second resisted the record of Slovakia on the distance belonging to Roman Mrazek since 1989.
Second place to Lebogang Sgange (RSA) in 11:03.32 also for him personal best (previous of 11:14.40 obtained in the same Meeting of 2017).
Third place and first of the home athletes Miroslav Uradnik (SVK) in 11:26.22 he too to the personal best.
Matei Toth (SVK) preparing for a three-week high-altitude training camp in Italy only finished fifth in 11:43.08.
