01/08/2018   Baranquilla 2018 - Eider Arevalo (COL) in 20km and Jose Leyver Ojeda (MEX) in 50 km won the Centroamerican and Carebbean Games






This morning (Colombia time) were held in Baranquilla the two walking races (men only) of the Central American and Caribbean Games.

 

50km men

 

They start in seven athletes for the 50km of the Central American and Caribbean Games of Baranquilla 2018: two athletes representing Guatemala (Bernardo Uriel Barrondo Garcia, and José Maria Raymundo Cox), two athletes representing Mexico (José Leyver Ojeda Blas and Omar Zepeda de Leon), two athletes representing Colombia (José Leonardo Montana Arevalo and Jorge Armado Ruiz Fajardo) plus José Leonidas Romero Irias (HON).

A group of six athletes is in front of the race (all excluding the athlete of Honduras José Leonidas Romero Dias) who pass in 49:40 (24:52 + 24:46)

They are leading in three in 1:38:51 (from 10km to 20km in 24:38 + 24:33): José Leonardo Montana Arevalo (COL), José Leyver Ojeda Blas (MEX) and Bernardo Uriel Barrondo Garcia (GUA).
A few meters behind is Jorge Armado Ruiz Fajardo (COL) (from 10km to 20km in 24:37 + 24:38)

They are leading in three in 2:27:28 (from 20km to 30km in 24:21 + 24:16): Bernardo Uriel Barrondo Garcia (GUA) with a red card for bent knee, José Leonardo Montana Arevalo (COL) with two red cards for bent knee and José Leyver Ojeda Blas (MEX)
With a few meters of delay still follows Jorge Armado Ruiz Fajardo (COL) in 2:27:42 (from 20km to 30km in 24:24 + 24:21).
In fifth position passes José Maria Raymundo Cox (GUA) in 2:34:11 (from 20km to 30km in 26:25 + 28:32)
Omar Zepeda de Leon (MEX), after passing mid-race in 2:04:09 he abandoned.

Only José Leyver Ojeda Blas (MEX) is leading in 3.15:19 (from 30km to 40km in 24: 06 + 23: 45) left his adventure partner José Leonardo Montana Arevalo (COL)  (3:15:30) after 35km (2: 51.34 for both ).
José Leonardo Montana Arevalo passes in 3:15:30 (from 30km to 40km in 24:06 + 23:56).
In third position Jorge Armado Ruiz Fajardo (COL) in 3:16:34 (from 30km to 40km in 24:22 + 24:31).

Continue with his pace José Leyver Ojeda Blas (MEX) that at 45km passes in 3:39:10 (5km in 23:51).

Eider Arevalo (COL), Esteban Soto (COL), Andre Eduardo Olivas Nunez (MEX), Carlos Sanchez Cantera (MEX), Josè Alejando Barrondo Xux (GUA) took the lead in 44:19 (22:22).
Immediately behind Erick Bernabe Barrondo (GUA) in 44:20.

They are still four ahead of the race in 1:05:48 (third 5km in 21:29): Eider Arevalo (COL), Esteban Soto (COL), Andre Eduardo Olivas Nunez (MEX) and Erick Bernabe Barrondo (GUA).
Meanwhile, Carlos Sanchez Cantera (MEX), who was with the leading group, is stopped for 120" in the Penalty Area, and the same fate goes to Richard Vargas (VEN).
