On Friday, September 7th, the Italian Athletics Championships will start in Pescara.
The walking events will take place on the road on a course already experienced for the 2009 Mediterranean Games on the seafront of Pescara on the distance of 10km with the following departure times:
- women: 5.30 pm
- men: 6:30 pm
The list of entries is of high interest in particular for the men's competition
10km road walk men
There are six athletes who should play the medals among the 18 entered athletes.
| Athlete | Personal best | Season best |
| | | |
| Fortunato Francesco | 40:31 (road) - 39:44.11 (track) | 1:23:04 (20km) |
| Tontodonati Federico | 40:21 (road) - 40:02:51 (track) | 40:02.51 |
| Picchiottino Gianluca | 43:23 (road) - 39:38.27 (track) | 39:38.27 |
| Chiesa Stefano | 44:45 (road) - 40:34.56 (track) | 40:34.56 |
| Dei Tos Leonardo | 40:45 (road) - 40:06.73 (track) | 40:37.51 |
| Stano Massimo | 41:08 (road) - 40:24.60 (track) | 42:24.74 |
In spite of his season best is the higher of the six (it was obtained during a regional competition) we still see Massimo Stano, for what he has done this year internationally, as the main candidate for the Italian Champion title.
The other two medals will certainly come out of a tight fight.
10km road walk women
The number of entered athletes (30) is certainly very interesting.
Absent, due to a technical choice, Eleonora Anna Giorgi there are two athletes whose standard level is definitely higher than that of the others.
They are Antonella Palmisano and Valentina Trapletti. Of course we will see an interesting race even if we believe that the Italian title can hardly escape the Palmisano.
For the bronze medal we think that the battle will be between Diana Cacciotti, Simona Bertini and Fatima Lotfi who after the wedding with Massimo Stano has dedicated herself to race walk and abandoned the middle distance.
