08/09/2018   Xi'an (CHN): Luo Dongpo and Liang Rui win 50km at Chinese Autumn Championships

The morning of the second day of the China Autumn Championships in Dali near Xi'an saw the performance of long distance races.

Starting at 7:00 am on a day warmer than yesterday's, they showed up at the start:
- 50km men: 57 athletes
- 50km women: 11 athletes
- 30km U20 men: 38 athletes, some of whom had already participated yesterday at 10km
This is a rather usual quirk in the panorama of the march in China, whereas in Europe it would be absolutely impossible and unthinkable.

50km men

As often happens the large group of the departents is thinner with the passing of the km.
Today even the heat does its part and the final times are certainly not those to which we are accustomed.
It also to say that the championships did not participate the best athletes who a week ago had competed in Jakarta, Palembang at the Asian Games.

Victory to Luo Dongpo (CHN) in 3:57:25
Second place to Biang Tongda (CHN) in 3:58:17
Third place to Niu Wenbin (CHN) in 3:59:47
Only those three athletes obatined a mark below 4:00.00 hours.

Fourth place to Luo Yadong (CHN) in 4:02.16
Fifth place to Wang Chao (CHN) in 4:02:41

50km women

Planet China is getting us used to the 50km of women very quickly.
But we did not think we could see in the current season the holder of the world distance record, Liang Rui (CHN), to race after Taicang for the second time four months after the Taicang exploit with a very good result.
But also another of the participants in the Taicang, World Race Walk Team Championships honored the Chinese Autumn Championships. This is Li Maocuo (CHN).

The two athletes competed together for a good part of the race and only the final Liang Rui forced the pace and won in a good 4:12:25 which represents the fifth world performance of the year.
Li Maocuo won the silver medal in 4:15:50 (in Taicang on May 5, 2018 she obtained the mark of 4:14:57).

These are two demonstrations of how the 50km of women is in ferment.
The bet is now to understand when there will be the first "under 4:00:00", whether in 2019 or 2020.

In third place a new name, Chi Meijiao (CHN) in 4:42:17
4) Xia Kaili in 4:43:26

6) Zhu Rounan in 4:58:33
7) Zhang Chunxiu in 5:06:29
