20/09/2018   Ravne (SLO): awakening of race walking in Slovenia

Also in Slovenia, the final race of the Slovenian Race Walk Championships for Clubs took place on 15 September 2018.

The fifth and final leg of the Slovenian Race Walk Club's Championship was held in Ravne (Slovenian Carinthia), on the border with Austria. The Slovenian Athletics Federation (AZS) has been very willing to accept the proposal of the Fabio Ruzzier (race walker with double citizenships) who, at the moment, is the only Slovenian walking coach, to include in the National calendar the Club Championship of race walk, to encourage the Clubs to start practicing this discipline too, which Slovenia, until a few years ago, had been completely ignored.

In the collaboration in the border district of the Alpe Adria (Friuli-Venezia Giulia), although of different Countries, there was also a training course for national race walking judges in Slovenia, which led to the registration for the Area Race Walkig Judges exams (level II) of the local Slovenian national judge Elena Marulc, to whom we wish all the success for this weekend in Alcobendas (ESP).
It would be the first time in the history of Slovenia that a race walk judge of that country would reach the European level, and this would mark a further step towards the growth of the march in that country.

Returning to the federal goal of Slovenia, it was largely achieved, given that in the five legs dedicated to all categories both youth and absolute, athletes from 11 different Clubs took part, with a total of 101 participating athletes (55 females and 46 males). In addition, the technical level has risen in all categories and the proof has been the fact that during the 2018 season have improved 14 Slovenian records.

Also this year, several Slovenian walkers have started to place themselves among the first even in cross-border races, which leads to a certain optimism, but above all stimulate young people to continue on this way.
If they are roses they will bloom, but in the meantime the enthusiasm is there and for now it is what counts.

In the last events two National records were improved: among the U16 boys, who competed on the distance of 3000m track walk Jaka Grabner (SLO - AK Velenje) obtained the mark of 15:03.03 deleting the old record of 15:16.77 signed in 2013 by Anže Tesovnik.
In U20 women Eva Čanadi (SLO - AK Koper) improved on the same distance from the 15:52.87 obtained in Koper last June until the current 15:16.50.

As far as the final classification of the Clubs is concerned, the AK Koper/AK Capodistria has won it by winning with 322 points, against the 260 of the second in the standings (Kladivar Celje) and the 108 points of the third (AK Radovljica).
