05/10/2018   Rieti (ITA): U16 (boys and girls) Italian Championships

In the weekend in Rieti the U16 Individual Championships.

The two walking events tests take place on Saturday with the following times:
- U16 girls: 15:15 with 3.000m track walk
- U16 boys: 16:45 with 5.000m track walk

5.000m U16 boys track walk

There should be no doubt about the winner.

Already last year Emiliano Brigante (2003) won the title by surprise and this year we do not see anyone who can undermine his victory.
His advantage in the Italian 2018 list is close to the minute.

During the current season the young walker of Monfalcone in the province of Gorizia, which is referred to as Friulian, but instead for the purists of the geography of the North East is an "Isontino" (better would say "bisiacco" - from bis-acquae that means between waters, as Monfalcone his birthplace is located between the two rivers: Timavo, which separates from Venezia Giulia at east and Isonzo that separates it from Friuli at west) has already taken a lot of satisfactions:
At the end of May in Palermo he won the Student Italian Championships with the best Italian U16 performance on 3.000m track walk (12:50.73) breaking down the record that belonged since 2001 to a pompous name of Italian athletics, that of Giorgio Rubino (13:04.73).

Then recently on Sep. 23, 2018 in San Vito al Tagliamento (PN) shattered his personal best on 5.000m bringing it from 22:32.03 (which he had obtained in Cles on Oct. 7, 2017) to a much more interesting 21:49.86.
These are his split times:

- 1.000m: 4:24.7

- 2.000m: 8:50.5 (4:24.8)

- 3.000m: 13:10.8 (4:20.9)

- 4.000m: 17:34.1 (4:24.3)

- last 1.000m in 4:13.36

On this occasion another pompous name of Italian athletics for U16 category was sent to the loft (that of Michele Didoni which was dated 1989).

With the benefit of the inventory of our knowledge, as there are no official U16 lists in the World, but limited to the U18 ones, we report that this performance is in the 15th position of the U18 world list 2018, and that in the founteen previous positions there are only three athletes of the year 2002 and eleven athletes of the year 2001, while Emiliano Brigante, as already mentioned, is born in 2003.

The boy trained by Sergio Tonut (he also coach in Monfalcone) has a beautiful grazing and linear walk of classic style and in the past has never had problems of a technical nature with the juries.
We therefore believe that also in Rieti his approach with the jury will be of the traditional type.

The greatest opponents will be Nicole Lomuscio and Pietro Pio Notaristefano both from the Puglia school (the first of that of Andria and the second coming from Mottola).

More complicated is the forecast for the cadet race, where however the main fact is given by the presence in the first six positions of six athletes from the same region, Tuscany.
They should be: Giada Traina, Luce Accordi, Martina Quartararo, Aurora Cerretini, Sofia Fiorini and Valentina Piserini to contend with the possible outsider Eleonora Massa.
