15/10/2018   Buenos Aires (ARG): Suraj Panwar (IND) wins the 2nd stage and Oscar Patin (ECU) wins gold

Sunny afternoon in Buenos Aires for the second day of the race walk U18 boys, the one that will award the medals.

The race, as in the first day will be on 5,000m track walk.
Today's time will be added to that of the first day to determine the final classification and the awarding of medals.

5.000m track walk U18 boys

Yusuke Iwakawa (JPN) starts immediately in the lead, who is immediately joined by Wang Xin (CHN), but while for the Japanese it will be a fire of straw for the Chinese will be the race of victory, before and after the race of the great defeat.

The split times are as follows:
- 1.000m in 3:59:06
- 2.000m in 8:02.25
and they always see Wang Xin (CHN) in the lead.

They follow him as a shadow in four: Suraj Panwar (IND), Oscar Patin (ECU), Gilberto Menjivar (ESA) and Cesar Cordova Fernandez (MEX).
At 3.000m the Chinese took the lead in 12:20.35 but the Indian is immediately behind him and has reached it.
When there are two laps to go, there are still five.
Force the pace Cesar Cordova Fernandez (MEX) and earns about 10m, but one lap to go he is stopped in the Penalty Area and at this point seems free way to the victory to Wang Xin (CHN).

The Chinese crosses the finish line first in 20:34.59 (unofficial), but soon disappears from the order of arrival because of a lane infringement he is DQed.
The bronze medal that was safe has now vanished due to an error that occurs very few times. But, as the Anglo-Saxons say: "rule is rule".

Deserved victory to Suraj Panwar (IND) in 20: 35.87 which is outlined as the real positive surprise of these Youth Olympics in race walking.
Second place to Oscar Patin (ECU) in 20: 38.17
Third place to Jan Moreu (PUR) in 20: 54.04
Fourth place to Davide Finocchietti (ITA) in 21: 41.62
Fifth place to Lubomir Kubis (CZE) in 21: 42.72

The aggregate standing of the two races is as follows

Gold to Oscar Patin (ECU) in 40:51.86.
His first statement: "the first thing I will do when I return home is put the medal on my mother's neck".

Silver at Suraj Panwar (IND) in 40:59.17
Bronze to Jan Moreu (PUR) in 41:59.29

Great work by the race walking judges. In the total of the two stages, the first four athletes received only two red cards.

Alberto Menjivar (ESA), who was in a good position for the bronze victory, threw it out of the window for a stop in the Penalty Area of 30" which benefited Jan Moreu (PUR) and Davide Finocchietti (ITA).
If race walk in the U18 must also be educational, this time we must really say that the goal has been achieved.
The best technical paces have been rewarded.
