16/10/2018   Buenos Aires (ARG): Xi Ricuo (CHN) wins the second stage and gold

Sunny afternoon in Buenos Aires for the second day of the U18 girls race walk, the one that will award the medals.

The race, as in the first day will be on 5,000m track.
Today's time will be added to that of the first day to determine the final classification and the awarding of medals.

5.000m U18 girls track walk

She is out of the game Hanna Zubkova (BLR) that in Gyor (HUN) had won the title of European Champion U18 with a very interesting 22:45.47 that until the beginning of these Youth Olympics was the second world performance of the 2018 season, behind at 22:38.16 by Taylor Ewert (USA) established in Philadelphia (USA) on April 28, 2018.

In the first stage they had sparks in many, but the two best had been
- Xi Ricuo (CHN), who had concluded in 22:23.26
- Sofia Elizabeth Ramos Rodriguez (NEX) who obtained the second place in 22:59.52, performances  that now place them at the world's top seasonal list.
In the lot of the contestants for a medal there are also the following four athletes who have occupied the positions from the third to the sixth:
- Olga Fiaska (GRE): 22:46.13
- Maria Villalva (ECU): 22:48.75
- Evin Demir (TUR): 23:25.54
- Simona Bertini (ITA): 23:32.30

From the beginning goes to the head Xi Ricuo (CHN) that walks with the pace impossible for other athletes and it is understood that the race can only lose her.
The split times are as follows:
- 1.000m in 4:26.13 (after walking one lap in 1:46.27 and another one in 1:45.97)
- 2.000m in 8:55.49 (seconds 1.000m in 4:29.30 with the last lap in 1:47.73)
Hanna Zubkova (BLR) tries to get under her, but she soon has to give up.
The Chinese, however, sees on the board disqualification two red cards and understands that perhaps it is better to slow down.
In fact the following turns are covered in 1:49.71, 1:50:17 and 1:50.16
The split time at 3.000m was 13:31.14 (last 1,000m in 4: 35.36).

Between 3.000m and 4.000m three red cards appear for a moment next to her name (they should involve a 30" stop in the Penalty Area.) At this point the Chinese advantage is about 35".
But then we realize that the red cards was not for Chinese.

Meanwhile behind her the fight is between Olga Fiaska (GRE), Maria Villalva (ECU) and Sofia Elizabeth Ramos Rodriguez (MEX).
The Chinese at 4.000m passes in 18:06.66 (fourth 1.000m in 4:35.52 with the last lap in 1:50:41 taking care especially to maintain a technique that does not make set off neither the penalty (which perhaps would be surmountable) nor much less the DQ.
The following laps are covered in 1:48.85, in 1:50.90 and 1:48:84.

XI Ricuo (CHN) also won the second heat in 22:40.23

Fifth place to Hanna Zubkova (BLR) in 24:01.70
Sixth place to Simona Bertini (ITA) in 24:38.81, perfect today all the points of view.
