The last round of race walk in Italy for the 2018 season is that of Grottammare where this year the National Final of the U18 Race Walk Individual Trophyis held with a completely new test reserved for the Regions of Italy that will compete with at least one U18, a U16 and a U14 both in males and females.
U18 boys
Davide Finocchietti and Aldo Andrei were expected to be absent.
The U18 boys race took place on an atypical distance of 8km.
The victory goes to Daniele Breda (ITA) in 36.10
Second place to Giulio Scoli (ITA) in 37:13
Third place tor Andrea Cosi (ITA) in 37:19
Without any doubt these three were the three most prominent athletes in the lot of the starters.
However, a glance at the technical situation immediately leaps to the eyes a heavy incongruity with the result of last Sunday in Reggio Emilia where an international jury had accepted the walk of the two athletes of Tuscany (Cosi in 45:34 and Scoli in 47:20), while they had even disqualified, after a stop in the Penalty Area, Daniele Breda with four red cards for loss of contact.
We fully agree that every race is a story in itself, and that each jury judges autonomously.
However, it remains doubtful whether the international one in Reggio Emilia has been too severe and has deprived Daniele Breda of a place on the podium in the Italian 10km Championship or if the current one that saw him winner with a red card against him was too permissive.
In the second hypothesis, the two athletes of Tuscany today would certainly have something to complain about.
We leave to our readers the interpretation of the photos below (well aware that the judgment is never given only by two photos), however, reporting that more than a few insiders on the corse has been said embarrassed by the result.
U18 girls
Another victory for the beautiful athlete of the Lombardy, Martina Casiraghi (ITA) that replicates the success of last Sunday in Reggio Emilia on the 10km also imposing in the 5km today in 24:05
No doubt for her about her technical performance.
In second place Ida Mastrangelo (ITA) arrived in 24:33 (today immune of red cards) that last Sunday was third (behind Simona Bertini) after having served a 60-second stop in the Penalty Area that had allowed Simona Bertini overtaking.
Also in this case the above applies to Daniele Breda.
Third place for Camilla Gatti (ITA) in 24.40
Very far from the others.
U16 boys
The result of the Italian U16 Rieti Championship is reconfirmed to lick the wounds of Rieti Emiliano Brigante.
Victory to Nicola Lomuscio in 27:44
Second place to Pietro Pio Notaristefano 27:47
Third place to Diego Giampaolo in 29:34 after serving 60" penalty for three red cards due to bent knee.
Also in this case the comparison with the Italian U16 Championship in Rieti is due, when Giampaolo was stopped in the Penalty Area, but for 3 red cards due to loss of contact. Today's mistakes are instead of a completely different nature.
Several times we have stressed the importance of identifying and reporting the error even to allow the athlete's coach a future correction.
Today in the category U16 cadets of the 17 red cads sent all were for the release of the knee: it's possible ?
U16 girls
It is confirmed in the victory Giada Traina (ITA) in 20:27
Second place to Giulia Velka Corsolini (ITA) in 20:46
Third place to Elisabetta Ippoliti (ITA) in 20:49
In the final standing by regions victory to Lombardy with points 667 (331 males + 336 females).
Second place to Tuscany with 664 points (341 males + 323 females)
Third place to Lazio with 656 points (342 males + 314 females)
