The first day of 2019 from a few years also represents the moment of the first 50km of the season.
The race takes place in a very scenic location: Seashore Path, Sunny Bay.
The Hong Kong Racewalking Association, led by the volcanic international race walking judge Echo Yeung, has managed to bring the 20km Olympic champion of Rio de Janeiro to compete at Stonecutter, who retur racing after more than two years of stopping and a maternity behind.
As it was in the forecasts of the eve the return to the races of Liu Hong coincided with a victory, but this was easily predictable given her participation to “The 1st race" organized by the Hong Kong Racewalking Association.
Athletes competed on a beautiful day with a temperature between 13°-14°C, but with an annoying wind to disturb the athletes.
What was less predictable was the mark.
It was desirable at this time of the season in preparation for the 50km a time around 1:31:00.
Also in this Liu Hong hit center: with the victory she got the time of 1:30:43 having regularly walked to an average of 4:32/km, but with a second part of the race faster than the first (45:39 + 45:04)
These are the split times:
- 5km: 22:52 (4:34 per km)
- 10km: 45:39 with the second 5km in 22:47 (4:33 per km)
- 15km: 1:08:19 with the third 5km in 22:40 (4:32 per km)
- last 5km in 22:24 (4:29 per km)
With this return to the races the progression of Liu Hong is even more interesting in the 20km in the years since he started competing.
