26/02/2019   Eiki Takahashi and Raquel Gonzalez athletes of the month of february 2019

Usually the month of February is a month in which the indoor activity is the king, and even so it was in 2019.

Also this year the road activity has had during its February peaks of interest.

It started with the Australian and Oceania Championships (valid as leg the IAAF Challenge stage). The result in the 20km men was not monstrous, but it gave us a further victory as in the 2018 of Perseus Karlstrom (SWE).

On the following weekend (17 and 18.2.2018) we have instead witnessed a series of high level competitions scattered among Asia, Africa, and Europe:
- the Indian Championships in New Delhi with a high number of participants, in particular in the 50km
- the usual race is Kobe with its extraordinary level of participation and with its equally extraordinary results at the male level
- to counterbalance Kobe in Europe we find Sochi (RUS) where we attended the show of Russian women with times of absolute interest in both 20km (Yelena Lashmanova) and 35km (Klavdiya Afanasyeva), while in the men's 20km this year Vasily Mizinov (RUS) has defeated rival Sergey Shirobokov (RUS).

In this case we have nominated the following performances

10.2.2019 Spanish 50km Championships El Vendrell 50km TUR Marc 3:54:51

17.2.2019 Russian Winter Championships Sochi 20km MIZINOV Vasiliy 1:18.32

Last year we excluded from the possibility of being elected "athlete of the month" the athletes of Russia, mainly for two reasons:

- first: the suspension from international competitions in Russia
- second: the absence in Sochi of an international jury
On the other hand, we must point out that Vasiliy Mizinov is one of those athletes authorized by the IAAF to compete under the symbol ANA, and therefore his performance could have been taken into consideration.
The absence of the international jury this year is therefore the main reason for the exclusion.

Using the same sistem of past month we have decided the best performance of february.

Even in the case of women, the results obtained in Sochi, which are also valid for all lists as required by the International Technical Regulations, have not been taken into consideration.

To be honest, we believe that they create a certain embarrassment to an audience not perfectly informed about the rules governing world records, the two performances of Yelena Lashmanova (RUS) obtained last year at Chebksary (1:23:39) and this year in Sochi (1:24:31) less the current world record of Liu Hong (1:24:38).
Regarding the great time of Klavdiya Afanasyeva also there are no tables for women on 35km we can not even give a score with reference to the split time to 30km, as missing in the results.

In terms of score the results are the following:
